Job Vacancy - Town Clerk

An opportunity has arisen to join the dedicated and passionate team of Councillors at Glynneath Town Council.

Applications, in the form of a CV and cover letter, are invited from proactive and driven professionals with proven and demonstrable leadership and organisational skills to partner our elected members in taking the Town Council forward in a positive direction. You will be expected to support and contribute to community projects and initiatives as outlined in our community plan as well as identifying areas for improvement within our community.

The successful applicant will be the Proper Officer and Responsible Finance Officer of the council and have a statutory duty to carry out all the functions required by law. You will be responsible for ensuring the council receive the advice and information it requires to ensure good governance by your experience and/or research with available resources. You will need to be enthusiastic, flexible and community-focused with excellent administrative, interpersonal, accounting and IT skills in order to work successfully with staff, Councillors, external organisations, stakeholders and the community. Excellent verbal and written skills are essential.

You will hold or be willing to work towards holding the Certificate in Local Council Administration (Wales). You will be politically aware and able to demonstrate a sound understanding of Local Government and current issues.

The ability to work efficiently through the medium of Welsh is desirable as is a good level of education

The post holder would be expected to work mainly from the Council office located in the Community Centre with availability to attend regular evening meetings and occasional weekends when required. A flexible approach to home working to be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate.

Glynneath is located with the Vale of Neath and has c.4000 residents. It has a passionate community supported by the Town Council which consists of 14 elected members

Administration Assistant

An opportunity has arisen to join the dedicated and passionate team of Councillors at Glynneath Town Council in supporting the Town Clerk and RFO (Responsible Finance Officer)

This is an ideal opportunity for someone seeking a career in local government administration where training opportunities will be made available

The main purpose of the role is to assist the Town Clerk with all aspects of office administration as well as taking responsibility of specific areas of work such as social media accounts, management of room bookings, payroll, data capture and reporting, coordination of meetings and events as well as general duties.

Applications are invited from enthusiastic individuals with a flexible approach to work who possess a good level of general education and digital skills with excellent interpersonal and communication skills
