Purpose of the Role

To maintain Town Council Grounds, assist with interments, and cover othermembers of grounds staff when required.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

To maintain the Town Council Grounds, paths, benches, hedges and boundaries, lawns, and footpaths to a good standard, and to collect and safely dispose of litter and other debris at Council managed sites (including dead flowers, tributes, waste materials etc from graves).

To assist the sexton in checking gravestones, plinths etc for damage within the Welsh Assembly Government`s H&S for Burial Plots Guidelines, and to inform the Town Clerk of the findings.

To liaise with Funeral Directors, Stonemasons, Families and members of the public in a courteous and professional manner at all times, showing due regard for those who are bereaved while on duty at the cemetery.

To clean, paint and maintain benches, poles signs and Council owned street furniture.

To work with hand tools and basic light machinery.

To keep grounds free of ice and snow in inclement weather.

Handling basic repairs and maintenance.

Repair machines, equipment, or structures as necessary and if competent.

To safely store materials and equipment, keeping sheds and compounds clear of all debris and waste materials.

To work at all times in a safe manner and obey the current Health & Safety laws, as well as any such working practices the Council deem appropriate.

To undertake any training the Council deem necessary for the safe execution post holder’s duties and the safety of facility users.

To assist other Glynneath Town Council employees to ensure the smooth running of all the Town Council`s services.

To complete a weekly timesheet detailing duties performed and time taken for each task, totalling hours worked, both daily and weekly. To deliver the completed, signed timesheet to the Town Clerk weekly.

To undertake any other duties at the direction of the Town Clerk, when required.

To cover holiday periods and absence of grounds staff team and Caretaker when required.
